Steve Burton answered questions on Patient 6 and his arrival in Port Charles!

Playing It Cagey

“Well, that’s for you and our brilliant fans to figure out,” Burton said to the one of the industry’s leading journalists, Michael Fairman, wearing an ear-to-ear smile, when Fairman asked the actor if he’s playing “the real Jason.”

Burton said he’s reading his scripts way in advance, because there’s so much for him to find out about what’s transpired in all the GH characters’ lives since he last was at the soap.

Input/Output

Burton noted that the fan input he’s received so far leads him to believe his comeback tale is going great, as fans are excited to see the next day’s episode, and that’s exactly what you want in the daytime serial medium.

“Zero. Zero involvement. I actually had no idea of what the story was,” Burton replied when Fairman asked him if he had any input into his comeback storyline, making an “o” with his hand.

The Tale of the Two Jasons–Off-Screen

Fairman queried Burton on whether it was awkward for him to come back to GH with Billy Miller (Jason Morgan) still playing Jason on the show, when Burton was the one to originate and play the role for 20 years.

“There’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes that people don’t know about. Billy was gracious enough to call me when he got the role, and when I found out I was going back, the first thing I did was call Billy,” said Burton of the camaraderie and friendship between him and Miller. They worked together on Y&R for a bit and even had the same manager for a time, he added.

Burton relished the fact that the first person he worked with upon returning to the GH set was industry vet Maura West (Ava Jerome), someone he’d never worked with before. He said she was “great” and he hoped to work with her more.

Reunited, and It Feels So Good

So what happened when Burton saw all his old costars from his previous life on the ABC sudser?

“A lot of hugs,” Burton said. “I was so comfortable there [GH], and I feel that great peace and comfortableness again,” the actor noted.

How Long?

Burton’s signed a three-year contract this time around at GH, but he hopes to stay longer, he said.

He said he needs almost 18 weeks off per year to go back and be with his family in Nashville.

When Patient 6 Will Encounter Sam

“It’s sooner rather than later,” Burton demurred. We can tell you he said it’s before February sweeps, at least, dear Soap Cities readers!

  1. WOW, STEVE SIGHED A 3 YEAR CONTRACT WITH GH AND WANTS TO STAY LONGER, HOW EXCITING IS THAT, THE FACT THAT UPON ARRIVAL AT GH ALL OF HIS OLD BUDDIES WELCOMED STEVE WITH OPEN ARMS. I’M EXCITED FOR STEVE AND I DO HOPE THAT HE STAYS LONGER THAN 3 YEARS.

    • Love it ! Hope they leave him as the real Jason. Never really accepted Billy Miller as Jason. They just changed the character to much
