Soap Cities reader, Dani Graham.

Every week we at Soap Cities (SC) profile a soap fan and SC reader from around the world in our Reader Profile. We soap fans are each an integral part of a vibrant, dynamic, eternal community. And here is one example of that!

Name: Dani Graham

Hometown: Woodlyn, PA

How long she’s been watching soaps:  OMG…47 years.

Favorite soap: I  can’t really choose. At one point, I was watching every, single soap. But I would say General Hospital. Days of Our Lives is a close second.

Favorite soap character: That’s a tough one. I’ve loved different ones in different stories. But I’d have to go with Anthony Geary (ex-Luke Spencer, GH). But I also love Jane Elliot (Tracy Quartermaine, GH).

All-time favorite soap storyline: There were so many over the years that made me laugh or cry the most. Even though it was OUTRAGEOUS (and unbelievable, but that’s what soap operas are for..,), on GH the left-handed boy, the freezing of Port Charles. But I think the story of BJ Jones’ death and her donating her heart to her cousin, Maxie.

On Days the entire story of Bo and Hope falling in love, Oak Alley plantation, and so, so many others.

On the future of the soap genre: I do not agree with how the networks have treated soaps. If they invested money in them, there are so many more stories that could be told, great storytelling and great drama. It’s not a forgotten art. I haven’t, nor will I, give up on my soaps!

Fun fact: I have been lucky enough to meet a lot of soap actors at soap events. I thanked them for sharing their lives with us.

I also remember being “forced” to watch soap operas when I was three. Dark Shadows was the first to “suck” me in (no pun intended)!
