Get to know Laura Wright! She’s played feisty, fierce, and just plain fabulous Carly Corinthos (with other surnames along the way, thanks to the character’s marriages!) since 2005. 

 A Capital Native!

Laura was born in our nation’s capital, Washington, D.C. She grew up in the D.C. area–Clinton, Maryland to be exact.

Budding Star

Laura hit the theatrical boards onstage in high school. She can count notable plays such as Gypsy, Our Town, and You Can’t Take It With You to her credits. She also starred in local commercials!

Famous Fellow Alum

Laura attended Surratsville High School in Maryland, from which Oscar winner Marcia Gay Harden also graduated!

A Soap Vet

Prior to GH, Laura’s talent and beauty graced the soaps Loving, The City, and Guiding Light. She portrayed Ally Prescott Bowman on both Loving and The City.

A Parade of Carlys … But the Buck Stops Here!

Laura wasn’t the first actress to play Carly, but the fourth. However, she has certainly put her unique stamp on the powerful character and made Carly her own.

A Famous Friend … And Former Roomie!

Laura roomed with none other than Live! with Kelly‘s very own Kelly Ripa while on Loving. Kelly was even in Laura’s wedding when she married John Wright in 1995.

Viva La Vino!

Laura and her now-ex-husband, John, began Standing Sun Wines, based in Beulton, California. The wines are Rhone-varietal from the state’s Santa Ynez Valley.

Family Gal

Laura has two children, Lauren and John, of whom she is incredibly proud. Of her 2016 divorce, Laura remarked, “We will always be a supportive, loving family of four–we’re just doing it differently now!”

Emmy Nom and Winner!

Laura won her first Daytime Emmy in 2011 as Best Actress in a Leading Role for her portrayal of Carly on GH. She also scored a 2017 nomination in the same category.

Big Screen, Too!

Laura also appeared in the Jennifer Lawrence film, Joy, alongside co-star Maurice Benard.
