She plays fab and fearless Phyllis Summers on The Young and the Restless and is a two-time Daytime Emmy Winner. Get to know Gina Tognoni!
Tognoni’s birthday is November 28th, making her a Sagittarius. “At the end of the day, what Sagittarius wants most is to know the meaning of life, and to accomplish this while feeling free and easy,” according to astrology.com.
Tognoni originally hails from St. Louis, Missouri.
Tognoni can boast winning two beauty pageants–she won Miss Rhode Island Teen USA in 1992, and in 1993 took home the title of Miss Rhode Island Teen All-American.
Y&R isn’t her first foray into soaps. Her daytime debut role was Kelly Cramer on One Life to Live. From there it was on to Guiding Light as Dinah, then back to OLTL as Kelly, before landing the part of Phyllis on Y&R.
Onward and Upward
Tognoni was spotted by Halle Berry’s manager–a judge for the Miss Rhode Island Teen All-American pageant–who turned out to be the catalyst that lead her onto the acting path.
Twice as Nice!
She has won the coveted Daytime Emmy not once but twice, both for her role as Dinah in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actress in 2006 and 2008.
Prime Time Projects
Tognoni has also appeared on such notable shows as The Sopranos and Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.
Stepping into Their Shoes
She is the third actress to play Phyllis. The first was Michelle Stafford, and the second was Sandra Nelson. Tognoni assumed the role in 2014.
She can count horseback riding, skiing, and songwriting among the activities she pursues outside acting.
Tognoni has been married since 2009. Her hubby is Joseph Chiarello.
