Days of Our Lives star Alison Sweeney dished on why Sami just had to come upon Will’s return to the show.
A Mother’s Love
Sweeney (Sami Brady) acknowledged that Sami was “obsessed” with Will, that he had become her reason for living before his death, and her death was so deeply painful for her, the actress had to come back to Salem once she heard rumors of Will’s death being greatly exaggerated, she told the soap industry’s premier journalist Michael Logan of TV Insider.
“I did feel pressure to do right by the audience. It’s important that Sami blows back into town for this story–as important to all the Sami haters as it is to the Sami lovers.”
Sami needs to see for herself that the rumors she’s hearing–from Ben Weston (Robert Scott Wilson), at that!–are true, Sweeney added.

Another Kind of Obsession
Sweeney said she understood well why it would be important for fans to see Sami back for this story: the show history, which many fans have lived through right along with its characters.
“I know what it means to be insanely invested in a TV show, believe me. [Laughs] Believe me, nobody hates Sami Brady as much as I hate Cersei Lannister,” the actress joked. But it’s not really a joke, right, fellow soap fans/dear Soap Cities readers?!

One Complaint
Sweeney was deeply hurt and angry when Will (ex-Guy Wilson) was killed by Ben Weston. The actress wasn’t shy about sharing this fact in the soap press.
“That’s the only complaint I’ve made about Days out loud…and I stand by that opinion,” Sweeney said.
