Ricky Martin reached out to help his native home of Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria decimated so much of it.
Helping Hand
The devastation that Hurricane Maria wreaked on Puerto Rico was definitely not lost on one of its favorite sons, singing star and actor Ricky Martin (GH, ex-Miguel). Martin, according to charity news site Look to the Stars, has partnered with YouCaring to establish a fund for the many on the island affected by the hurricane. Martin has already donated $100,000 to the cause. So far, it is nearing its two million dollar goal.
He said, “Puerto Rico is going through one of the toughest times in its history, and the island desperately needs us. Hurricane Maria left devastation, damage and affected hundreds of thousands – that’s why I decided to create this fundraiser to help provide basic needs and rebuild all that was lost.”

Agonizing Wait
Martin also revealed in an Instagram post that he hasn’t been able to speak to his brother, who resides on the island. “We have no idea where he’s at,” he said, his voice weary with worry. “I’m sure I’m not the only one dealing with this uncertainty. I know there are many men and women living abroad or within the island that haven’t been able to talk to their relatives because of communication issues.”
