As the World Turns alum William Fichtner is set to host an upcoming show about choppers!
Car Enthusiast
Fichtner will appear as himself, beginning July 30th on Top Gear America, which BBC describes as a show about motorcycles and drag-racing, among other motor-ific topics.
The handsome actor will star in an eight-episode series on BBC America.
“There are people who are more gear heads than I am,” he told Michael Starr of the New York Post. “I’m an automotive fan. I love motor sports and I love to watch motor sports. I love it all,” he told the New York Post.
Pedal to the Metal!
Fichtner was game for the show’s often precarious driving sequences. He, along with Antron Brown, a world champion drag racer, and British automotive journalist Tom “Wookie” Ford showcased their prowess behind the wheels of an array of automobiles.
“For the opener, we went down and ran tracks in Baja, Mexico. We took old 80’s cars and went to one of the original dirt tracks in North Carolina. We went up into the mountains in central California and ran crazy ATV vehicles, hot rod things,” Fichtner said.
He also said that, although he and his team were helped by trained professionals for some of the riskier driving sequences, he and the other hosts were indeed the ones in the cars for those hair-raising scenes. It should be interesting, to say the least, to see this accomplished actor in this decidedly different role than we’re used to!
A Pet Project
Cars aside, Fichtner still is passionate about acting. Indeed, to that end, he wrote, stars in and is a first-time director on the film, Cold Brook. The movie is being filmed around the actor’s native upstate New York.
It is, to hear Fichtner tell it, “the story of two ordinary guys in a small town who embark on an extraordinary adventure. It’s a story about coming home; something everyone, everywhere has an innate desire to do.”
We at Soap Cities wish Fichtner continued success, both with Top Gear America and his acting endeavors!
