Flynn chatted with Michael Fairman and, during his extensive interview, gave his take on all things Chad, with a lot of Billy thrown in there as well!

Flowers–No, Wait–Abigail’s in the Attic!

He’s a fan favorite, and Daytime Emmy nominated actor Flynn (Chad) did not disappoint when getting candid about his DOOL role and current sizzling storyline with Abigail (Marci Miller) and Gabi (Camilla Banus).  Of course, right now the character is embroiled in a messy love triangle (is there any other kind?) between his supposedly deceased wife, who’s come back to the land of the living, and new love Gabi. Now that Miller has assumed the role of Abigail after actress Kate Mansi left, Flynn offered his take.

“I think when you have someone as talented as Marci it makes it easier,” he said. “Also, I think the Chad and Abigail relationship, and fandom, and the people who support that couple were such fans based on what Kate Mansi and I had done which was really great.”

Of Chad’s relationship with Gabi, Flynn said his character needed someone to talk to after losing his wife. The two then, of course, grew so close, and Abby’s return complicated that.

A New Scribe in Salem

There certainly have been many ups and downs for Chad. Now that Ron Carlivati’s onboard as Head Writer for DOOL after exiting General Hospital, what will his new material hold for Chad, Abigail, and Gabi?

“His track record speaks for itself,” said Flynn. “I have had conversations with him and from what I can tell he knows how important Chad’s character is, and how important he is to the show.” Carlivati also knows how important Chad and Abigail are as a couple.

Remembering Joe

One topic that is close to Flynn’s heart is his last scene with his onscreen dad, the late Joe Mascolo (Stefano), who died late last year. Flynn shared a personal reason for holding that scene dear.

“My great-grandparents were a huge part of how I was raised along with my mother,” he said. “My father wasn’t in the picture. So in essence, my great-grandfather was my father. It was a lot of personal stuff with Joe in that scene that made it close to my heart. I was told that was going to be our last scene together and I took that with a lot of weight on my shoulders.”
