John Aniston has been working in daytime since 1969 and received his first Emmy nod this year for his work as Victor Kiriakis on Days of Our Lives. He opened about about that and more!
A Long Time Coming
Aniston said he didn’t know why it took the Academy so long to recognize his work with a Daytime Emmy nomination, but he found it very encouraging. Of course, he didn’t submit his work for the award many times, as it requires a lot of effort, he told Michael Logan in this week’s print version of TV Guide.
“You have to sit down for hours and watch a whole bunch of your episodes to find just the right one to submit to the judges. Are you kidding me? Who has time for that at my age?” Aniston said.
Daughter Dearest
Of his uber-famous daughter, Jennifer, Aniston said even her Emmy win for her work on Friends didn’t make him want one more.
“And by the way,” he said, “I taught her everything she knows!”
It sounds like Aniston is as witty and fun as his on-screen alter ego.
A Storied Career Just Keeps Going–and Getting Even Better!
Aniston said of his lovably flawed character that the secret to his longevity is “charm.”
“Of course, it helps that the writers give me real gems. My favorite was when evil Eve [Kassie DePaiva] suddenly came back to town and showed up at Victor’s door. He took one look at her, turned around, and said, ‘Anyone order a hooker?’ It’s like having Neil Simon write your dialogue,” Aniston mused.
The Salem staple balked at the idea of retirement.
“What would I do?” he wondered
