We had a bad feeling about this, because we love us some Tracy Quartermaine, Jane Elliott’s signature role.
How Do You Thank Someone?
Who has taken you from crayons to perfume? That’s what Lulu sang in “To Sir, With Love,” and how many of us long-term General Hospital fans.
“Veteran General Hospital actress Jane Elliot has informed her bosses at the ABC serial and multiple costars that she won’t be re-signing when her contract expires this spring,” reported Jamey Giddens of Daytime Confidential.
Giddens also mused that it would be fantastic if Frank Valentini, GH‘s Executive Producer, could talk Elliott out of this decision. We have to agree.
A Port Charles and Daytime Vet
Elliott debuted in the role of the dazzlingly entertaining, richly nuanced character of Tracy Quartermaine in 1978. She’s had lots of marriages, even more money ups and downs, and two sons she loves dearly.
The actress also played Judy Trent on Knots Landing, Carrie Marler on Guiding Light, Cynthia Chandler on All My Children, and Anjelica Deveraux on Days of Our Lives.
Elliott won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal of the complicated, lovable Tracy in 1981.
Fun fact: Elliott had a little flirtation with Elvis Presley when they worked on a movie together!
Never Say Goodbye
Let us remind you, dear Soap Cities readers, this is daytime. Nothing is ever final and no one is ever gone for good.
As Tracy and Luke once noted, in Port Charles, “No one ever stays dead!”
Hopefully, Tracy won’t be killed off the show, but even if she is, we would always welcome her back.
