ABC Exec Dishes on What’s Ahead for GH’s Hottest Couples

Nathan Varni gaves us lots of hope for the futures of a few of GH’s most exciting couples.

ABC executive Nathan Varni had some fascinating things to say about what’s ahead for some of Port Charles’ most popular pairings!

Will CarSon Continue?

Well, the “sex”-with-Nelle (Chloe Lanier) cat’s out of the bag for Sonny (Maurice Benard). Carly (Laura Wright) knows everything. This may be the twistiest twist in the story of CarSon’s passionate love affair so far.

“Carly and Sonny may be facing bumps in the road,” said Nathan Varni, Current Series Executive at the Alphabet Network in a visit to podcast Daytime After Dark. He added that die-hard Carly and Sonny fans should stick by their fave couple, though, to see if their love is strong enough to withstand its latest test. It is, we say at Soap Cities, it definitely is.

Just Can’t Get Enough of Julexis?

This GH couple has an ARMY of supporters (#JulexisArmy)! Can even Romeo and Juliet say that? Samson and Delilah? Jennifer and Justin? No–only Julian and Alexis.

“We now know that Julian was under Liv’s control,” said Varni, explaining some of the awful things Julian (Will deVry) has done in the past year. And that includes, Varni said, trying to kill Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn).

Varni said there is still a lot to come for these two, though it won’t always be simple, as their characters and their love are “very layered and complex.”

Their story will continue into the spring months, Varni said.

Next Up for Naxie!

Nathan (Ryan Paevey) and Maxie (Kirsten Storms) seem to have survived Hurricane Claudette. They even finally made it to the altar!

Varni was more mysterious about what’s ahead for these two lovebirds, however. He said though they have a future, he couldn’t get into too many specifics “for personal reasons.”

We’re left to wonder if Ryan Paevey will return after the movie project he’s taken a hiatus for wraps. We sure hope he does.

Let’s Go, Lante!

While his attention is now focused on helping Lulu, Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) will get more stories of his own in the coming months.

“As time goes on, we’ll see Dante more involved at the PCPD and some fun cop stories,” the ABC exec promised.

Fireworks for Friz

Varni commended GH head writers Shelly Altman and Jean Passanante for the brave move of pairing a Port Charles heroine, Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst), with the town anti-hero, Franco (Roger Howarth).

“They work well together,” he said.

He said that Franco and Liz will be involved with Jason (Billy Miller) and Sam (Kelly Monaco) in getting to the bottom of what happened to Jake (Hudson West) while he was in the clutches of Helena Cassadine.

Double Duty for Duke Lavery

Daytime After Dark host Carly asked Varni about the decision to have Duke (Ian Buchanan) leave the show.

“I wasn’t happy when Ron [Carlivati, ex-Head Writer] exited him off the show,” the ABC exec said. “But anything is possible.”

Varni said he would even welcome Buchanan back in a role other than that of Duke.

After all, that worked with Kristen Alderson playing Starr Manning and later Kiki Jerome, right Soap Cities readers?

Preemption Problems

“No one is more frustrated than myself,” Varni said of the frequency with which GH has been interrupted by preemptions for breaking news lately. He said he’s working actively with the news division at ABC to see how they can be reduced.

In the meantime, if GH is preempted in your area, Varni recommended calling your local ABC affiliate to see if they might air the show at a later time the same day.

“Trust me, we have your back,” said Varni to a GH fan who called into the show with concerns about preemptions.
