Every week we at Soap Cities (SC) profile a soap fan and SC reader from around the world in our Reader Profile. We soap fans are each an integral part of a vibrant, dynamic, eternal community. And here is one example of that!
Name: Maureen McKay Taylor.
Hometown: Temecula, California
How long she’s been watching soaps: I’ve been watching soaps since about 3 years old with my grandmother. Not that I understood what I was watching, but I sure sat there everyday and watched the black and white television screen. My grandmother watched Days, The Doctors, Santa Barbara, and later on, Passions.
Favorite soap: Days of Our Lives.
Favorite soap character: Hope/Bo (they complete each other so I see them as one).
All-time favorite soap storyline: When Bo stole Hope from her wedding with Larry Welch.
On the future of the soap genre: Soaps are focusing more on realistic storylines. Showing that times have changed and you don’t have to be ashamed of who you are or your sexual preference. I believe by incorporating such storylines on the screen has helped to pave the way for equal rights for all. This is also an example of how the soap genre itself remains relevant and important.
Fun fact: My husband and I share a love like Bo and Hope. We met at the ages of 13 & 14 years old and I knew then, he would be my husband one day. No matter what paths we took throughout the years, we always ended up back together. Its been 32 years now and we are truly still very much in love.
