Soap Cities Reader Profile #3: Soap Mega-fan and Scribe, Casey Hutchison

0

Every week we at Soap Cities (SC) profile a soap fan and SC reader from around the world in our Reader Profile. We soap fans are each an integral part of a vibrant, dynamic, eternal community. And here is one example of that!

Name: Casey Hutchison

Hometown: Virden, Illinois

How long he’s been watching soaps: I’ve been watching soap operas for 14 years now. The first one I ever watched was “All My Children.” Then it all just snowballed from there. Before I knew it I was watching nine soaps!

Favorite soap: My favorite soap opera of all time is “The Young and the Restless.” I just have never been able to get enough of it. I’ve been watching it for nine years now.

Favorite soap character: I believe this is the hardest question on this list. I would have to say that I have a couple. However, my favorite would have to be Katherine Chancellor who was played by the glamourous and phenomenal Jeanne Cooper for 41 years.

All-time favorite soap storyline: I have so many. This is just like the soap character question! My all-time fave probably has to be a storyline that they did on “The Young and the Restless” a couple years back. It was in 2010. They did a doppelganger story where the character of Patty Williams (Stacy Haiduk) took over the life of Emily Peterson. It was so crazy and over the top and so well done. Now, the one that comes very close to being my favorite is the Nicole/Sami baby switch on “Days of Our Lives!” Talk about good soap!

On the Future of the Soap Genre: I believe soaps are headed into a bright future. These four that are left are beginning to see new viewers finally come in. “The Young and the Restless” and “The Bold and the Beautiful” are reaching highs in ratings. NBC, CBS, and ABC have to realize that over 15 million people (in the U.S. alone) still watch soaps TODAY!

Fun fact: I am currently creating a soap opera by the title of “There’s Always Tomorrow.” It is being created with Shawn Brady and Akbi Khan. We have gotten a deal with hit scriptwriter Matt Roy to write our first 5 episodes! We can’t wait for soap fans to see what we have in store!

Full disclosure: Shawn Brady and Akbi Khan are co-founders and co-Editors-in-Chief of Soap Cities.
