General Hospital Casting Shakeups: Is Will deVry Next?!

Will deVry, whose GH future is uncertain.

It’s beginning to seem like the General Hospital cast will be unrecognizable in a few months–is Will deVry the next fan fave to be let go?

Negotiation Impasse

Contract talks between deVry, who plays handsome, complicated mob boss Julian Jerome on GH, of course, have stalled, reported our good, good friends over at Soap Opera Digest (SOD) Monday.

“Barring a last-minute change, the scenes deVry shot before GH began its three-week summer hiatus on June 30th will be his last in Port Charles,” SOD said.

The magazine also quoted an unnamed source who said this is a surprise to those in the know as well.

“Nobody knew it was maybe his last day,” reports a source. “I think we all just assumed there was lots of story planned for ‘Julexis’,” SOD’s source source said.

This isn’t the first time GH has played hardball with actor contracts, is it, dear Soap Cities readers? Let’s see: in the past 1.5 years, GH hit an impasse with, Tyler Christopher (ex-Nikolas Cassadine), who quit; Roger Howarth (Franco Baldwin), who actually signed on two times; and Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth Webber), who thankfully worked out her contract; and now we have Will DeVry!
We wouldn’t be surprised, readers, if Steve Burton’s recent rehiring had an impact on DeVry’s negotiations, as industry insiders say it affected fan fave Rebecca Budig’s ouster from the show. As we’ve been hearing, don’t be surprised if Michael Easton is out next. Apparently, he wants out, which would free up even more money for Burton’s salary. Let’s not forget that one of the main reasons Burton left GH in the first place, he requires condensed taping days and transportation from LA to Nashville, where he and his family have relocated to.
“I hear the ABC soap refused to negotiate with DeVry, telling him to take their offer or leave it. They must be mighty confident Steve Burton’s return is going to pay off big,” said our friend Jamey Giddens at Daytime Confidential.
We at Soap Cities also wonder if deVry’s hosting of Best Bottle, a reality show in which teams compete to create the tastiest bottle of wine, made deVry even less willing to accept such harsh terms.
