Tessa and Mariah on The Young and the Restless.

Fans are buzzing about what could be the hottest summer couple on The Young and the Restless–Mariah and Tessa!

It’s All About the Music

Tessa (Cait Fairbanks) is quite the crooner, as fans of The Young and Restless know. And who wouldn’t fall for a  cute woman who can sing and play guitar?

Don’t Miss: Viewers spoke out on Tessa and Mariah (Teriah), and we were shocked at their response.

Mariah (Camryn Grimes) apparently would, as we saw on Wednesday’s episode of the CBS sudser. Ironically, the biggest clue for us here at Soap Cities was the music, as romantic, touching music played over Mariah and Tessa’s intimate talk about life and relationships.

Related: Y&R star Melody Thomas Scott dished on the bidding war over her upcoming memoir.

Would you like a daring story about this couple to be told on Y&R? Or would you prefer Mariah to stay with Devon (Bryton James) and Tessa to find her joy with someone else?

Stand Up for Democracy and Vote!

Also: Jason Thompson shared a moving tribute to his late pet pup.

Ok, well, maybe you wouldn’t be standing up for democracy necessarily, but you would be making your voice heard!

So do you like the idea of a Mariah/Tessa pairing, dear Soap Cities readers? Do you not want these two together? There’s a third option, which is that you’re indifferent? In each case, you can cast a vote in our survey below.

  1. Are the writers forgetting their loyal fans? I’m OUT, there are lots of good shows out there,

    • Are u asking me to change my mind? Is this not discussion? I’m sorry for not understanding what u mean about moderation. I like the soap very much, but if u r changing things that way I’m changing channels and I believe I will not be the only one. It’s just a matter of choice, The writers are choosing to turn things that way and I choose not to watch, is this not what u do when u invite people to ur home? U choose to invite who u want to allow into ur home, so do I. On the other hand I’m not trying to offend people because of their lifestyle, by all means. These are human beings who I can never ever physically hurt or refuse to reach out to help in any different way, I hate injustice and it is sad when anyone from the LGBT gets hurt out there because of their preference , because they are someone’s son or daughter, and it hurts even when we are not related to see this happen to ANOTHER HUMAN BEING.

Did we at Soap Cities do something to upset you Haydee Solivan. If so, please know it was unintentional. Confused :/

      • I have been watching Y& R for 40 years. It has always been my favorite daytime program but if the writers continue on the path like Miriah & Tessa, I will not be turning on my Tv to watch or will I record on my DVD. I will not bring this into my home.

          • Terisa Dallimore

Im furious I’ve been watching the y&r for over 40 years and now they mess it up with the Mariah and Tessa kiss..Done with it.Will NOT be watching anymore! Good bye Y&R after 45 years..Good bye!

          • I have been watching Y&R from the first day that it aired. It will break my heart to stop watching but this story line will leave me no choice but to stop watching. I sure hope someone is reading these post. I’m serious!

        • Laura C. Cordogan

Agree 100%. I’m ready to turn it off right now. I’m catching up on episodes …and they’ve finally ruined it for good. I’m DONE.

        • I am 51 and have been a loyal fan my whole life and I am done, I will not watch them destroy it, and believe me that is what they are doing. Why do they not care about viewers who have been fans all these years, our opinion should count too. My teen daughter and I enjoyed watching the show together and she was going to be a new generation soap fan, but she is done with it now too because of the gay story line.

          • I totally agree! I to have been watching the past 40 years and it’s sad that I have to give this show up but I will! I to have had my daughter grow up with this show but after the Mariah and Tessa storyline she quit soon as they made there first move. Can’t blame her!

        • I AGREE WITH THE PERSON BEFORE ME AND I AM FURIOUS THAT YOU WOULD DEGRADE THIS SHOW BY PUTTING SAME SEX TOGETHER. I THOUGHT THAT THIS SHOW HAD MORE CLASS NOT TO DO WHAT OTHER SOAPS ARE DOING BUT I GUESS THE WRITERS DON’T. I’VE WATCHED FOR 40 YRS ALSO AND IF THEY CONTINUE THIS THEN I’M WALKING AWAY AS WELL!

        • alison erickson

i have watched many many years but since you did the cane thing again i quit watching was at someones house and saw maria and tessa REALLY you are so ridiculous. I am done for good and many are following me. grow up

          • I have watched since 1973! I am so sick of Hollywood shoving their gay agenda down our throats. If this storyline continues with Tessa I’m out. And I will miss it sooooo much!

        • I agree. I do not want a gay relationship in the mix or my home. I do have other options and will go another route if this is kept up.
Keep Mariah with Devon with a strong relationship and a grand wedding that would beat all. Make them a strong role model for young people for marriage and what that really means. Working together. Use Princess Diana as an model example. That would be awesome. But without the death in the end. Just some ideas without the gay mix.
I too will move on if the gay mix stays there.

        • I won’t be watching it anymore if they continue with these two women in a same sex relationship. I’ve watched the y and r since it’s very first show.
Most people that watch this show are house wives and older people. I would rather not be watching 2 women having a relationship on daytime TV.
You may end up loosing a lot of the show’s followers.

      • I agree 100%. I have watched the show for many years and even though there have been other issues I’m not in agreement with, this is where I draw the line. If the choose to continue with this story line I will no longer watch the show. It seems as though everyone feels the need to represent all lifestyles.. how about a storyline between a young heterosexual couple that wants to remain celibate during their courtship until their marriage. It’s a lot more difficult to do that than just to like someone and sleep with them. There are still couples that feel very strongly about their values and try to live by their moral standards. I think you would be applauded for such a storyline.

      • I agree with Haydee Sullivan. I have watched for years and have now stopped recording and watching. I am 69 years old and choose not to watch.

    • I have watched Y&R since its debut in 1973!! I will STOP watching if Y&R continues down the gay path they tired it once before with the first Adam and it didn’t go over well … I don’t believe Bill Bell would approve if he were alive.

    • Charnelle Brown

Please don’t start women liking women on the young and the restless. It’s never been in the 40 years the show has been on the air. That is not what 65 year old women with deep rooted faith wants to see. Please.

      • What, please, does your faith say about adultery? What does it say about divorce?

I could go on, but I really would just so love to see what faith this is that is OK with breaking all of the Ten Commandments, but insists in clutching its pearls at the thought of two lesbians. I am ready to listen. Enlighten me, please.

I am a Christian, just in case you wonder.

        • Yes! I agree totally. Where is the issue? And if Chritianity is the basis for the views on this comment’s section… Christ loved everyone, he did not discriminate and I fail to see what terrible thing two women together does. It’s not catching! It might just help someone be more understanding. And representation like this can save lives. If this storyline does that for someone out there, then their life is more important than all this bigotry and homophobia. Far worst things have happened on this show.

          • I have been watching Y&R from the first day that it aired. It will break my heart to stop watching but this story line will leave me no choice but to stop watching. I sure hope someone is reading these post. I’m serious!
I have no problem with people doing whatever they please with their lives but I don’t have to sit and watch it. I would guess that most people watching Y&R are from an older generation like myself (68yrs old) It is not what we want to sit in our living room and watch. Sorry, but this is a no go for me.

      • Dear Religious people.

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God’s Law. I have learned a great deal from you. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate. I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some other elements of God’s Laws and how to follow them.

        1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Kiwi’s, but not Indonesians, Can you clarify? Why can’t I own Indonesians ?

        2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

        3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness – Lev.15: 19-24. The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

        4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord – Lev.1:9. The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

        5. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it?

        6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination, Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don’t agree. Can you settle this? Are there ‘degrees’ of abomination?

        7. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle-room here?

        8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

        9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

        10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev.19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? Lev.24:10-16. Couldn’t we just burn them to death at a private family affair, like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively and thus enjoy considerable expertise in such matters, so I’m confident you can help.

Thank you again for reminding us that God’s word is eternal and unchanging.

    • I read approximately ten comments and agree 100%. I have watched the show for decades and if a lesbian storyline is introduced I will no longer tune in.

    • I’ve been a fan of Young & Restless for over 40 years! It makes me sick to my stomach to see two female adults kissing on this soap? Yes, I know that homosexuality is highly accepted today but not in my house nor in my family. It’s a Learned Behavior and I would rather cut it out of my television viewing altogether! So I will no longer tape this show if thats what the writers want to tried to invent. The only soap that is now left for me is Bold and the Beautiful. So drop this unnatural story line this has gone a little to far! By the way;” You Do Have To Do EVERYTHING THE WORLD HAS TO OFFER! Y&R won many grammys before this storyline and I do hope they continue. I pray that drop this story line if not I”m OUT!, I do understand it all about money, sex, and power these days it just a shame that almost everything that is on television has the sexual appearance . Well I do know one thing for sure Jesus Is Coming Soon and Judgement awaits all of us! So and for me and my house we choose Christ! On the other hand this storyline may be just what I needed to pull the plug ! Thanks

      • Hate to burst your cream filled bubble Amanda Davis but Bold & Beautiful has a character who is a T in the LGBT group. Welcome to the 21st century and reality!

    • I think it’s great. Y’all can watch murders, cheating, incest, violence, people practically having sex hardcore but a kiss between two women makes y’all run away. Y’all didn’t stop when Adam had his gay storyline back last decade. They just showing a relationship that happens and is happening whether u like it or not. Kudos to Y&R. Makes me love it more. People are attracted to the same sex all the time. Some choose to explore some do not. It’s like saying “I have gay friends and I love them but I hate everything that makes them gay at the same time”..Ridiculous..good riddance. Lord help if y’all have gay children or family members that want to come out but gotta go to strangers instead…I bet some of you don’t like to see the interracial relationships on the show either. It’s 2017 not 1917. Y’all ain’t gonna stop watching..who you fooling?!! 😂😂😂

    • Yes they have forgotten the loyals and I am under 30 been watching with my grandmother from birth. 5 generations strong and we are done. GOODBYE Y& R I see your ratings already down over 455,000 viewers. You will be off TV soon!

      Inquisitor.com
The Young and the Restless started the week on Monday, July 31 with 4,479,000 total viewers, but by the end of the week, it was down to 4,024,000, which was a total decrease of 455,000 viewers. That’s a big hit. In the all-important 18-49 demographic, Y&R hit a new low. Compared to the week before, The Young and the Restless was down more than 160,000 viewers and compared to this time last year, down more than 353,000, and that’s with the buffer of the higher numbers on Monday and Tuesday pulling up the average. https://www.inquisitr.com/4432491/young-and-the-restless-spoilers-yr-ratings-plummet-tessa-mariah-kiss-to-blame/

    • If they put Mariah and Tessa together as lesbians, I WILL POSITIVELY STOP WATCHING THE SHOW!!!!! I am sick of having this “lifestyle ” crammed down my throat! I guess Y&R doesn’t care how many viewers they will lose just to accommodate a few.

        • Agree with Linda and Patty. Not for daytime TV. Or anytime TV. Keep this stuff behind closed doors. Enough is enough. STOP cramming this down our throats.

      • Y & R is the last soap I watch. PERIOD. and I’ve been trying to stop for a long time but if y’all put Mariah amd Tesse together I will NOT have a problem. Thank you in advance.

      • Amen to that. Its too much. Its enough Bold and The Beautiful has a transgender character. Enough with all that already. Everybody knows that this lifestyle exists. Do we have to be reminded in every show we watch? There are still a lot of us who still believe that sexual preference and orientation should be left in private. I certainly dont want to see two women, or men for that matter, kissing on a daytime show or any show. Why does everybody have to follow suit on this LGBT movement. I dont hate them. They are still God’s children. But all of this exposure almost seems like hollywood is trying to encourage this type of lifestyle.

      • I will stop watching too. Keep The Young and the Restless as is. No gay or lesbian stuff please

      • Amen to that. Its too much. Its enough Bold and The Beautiful has a transgender character. Enough with all that already. Everybody knows that this lifestyle exists. Its not being homophobic not to want to see something on soaps that used to be seen only in movies or on cable. P. S. Children can see this during the summer.

      • DITTO! My sentiments exactly! If the Y&R producers/directors/writers try to drag me through weeks and months of an examination of the lesbian lifestyle, I will absolutely stop watching because we already have so much of that ELSEWHERE. Even though straights way outnumber LGBTs, the LGBT issues get crammed down the throats of straights in so many places that one now has to be LGBT in order to be “with it, Man!” It is “uncool” to be straight now in so many facets of society — yet Y&R was a refuge where being straight was just fine. WHY do producers/directors/writers always have to tinker with the format / audience composition if it isn’t broken? “CHANGE IS THE WAY!” — right? Yeah we just got through 8 years of that “Change!” crap-o-la and it seriously screwed up the nation. Change just for change’s sake is not the way. “LOOK before you leap!” is the wiser route — which is what the producers/directors/writers of Y&R are NOT doing when they start to drag their mostly straight audience into the LGBT world. Like you, Linda, I and all my Y&R friends will abandon the show if they drag on this budding lesbian affair between Mariah and Tessa. BTW…Charactrer Kevin Fisher (Greg Rikhaart) in real life is Gay and had been bucking to be cast with a Gay lover on the show but has thus far been denied. I question whether producers/directors/writers for Y&R felt the need to buckle under LGBT pressure to cast SOME characters in an LGBT role and chose Lesbian vs. Gay (Male) based on fewer finding offense with two women kissing vs. two men kissing. And as a guy, no I do not find two women kissing to be “sexy” or erotic. It’s BORING and a turn-off in my book. But next we may see Mariah and Tessa rolling under the sheets together as Y&R loves to depict their love scenes. YUCK! I WILL VOMIT! Actually I won’t because I will stop watching the show if they carry on this storyline beyond just an “experimental but confused kiss” and try to turn it into a long-running storyline in search of a new audience. Y&R was sued for not casting enough blacks in their shows. Do they now fear being sued for not casting LGBT relationships? CBS should sell the show to the BET network if they feel the need to cast more blacks than are already on the show. Or sell to the Bravo Network if they want to get into the LGBT world. The producers/directors/writers have lost sight of their core audience if they think carrying the Y&R storyline into the LGBT world is the right way to go. So many Soaps have died due to the changing dynamics of television along with changing lifestyles. I predict Y&R is headed the way of the Dinosaur if they go LGBT and loyal viewers jump ship WITH ABANDON! Who is responsible for this truly DUMB idea of taking Y&R into the already over-served LGBT market in television content?

    • I agree.. Devon and Noah for that matter have been kicked in the GUT too many times already ..

  2. If this is how it is going to be. I will change the channel as I will not be watching The Young and Restless anymore.

    • I agree one hundred percent with those that are against the Y&R is heading. The writing is god awful! I will be stopping my watching very soon!

    • I & my friends will all quit watching if you bring queers/lesbians into the showY& R. Don’t watch transgender parts already. You’re going against God as it is.

  3. I would love that in the story. Not everyone that watches are voting. I know when Days first had Will and Sonny together, the ratings went up. When Will got killed off, ratings went down. Please ignore the haters, they watch adultery, sex out of wedlock, people having sex with their brothers wife, and father’s wife, but they don’t want to except this. This is part of life, I’m straight but I support this.

  4. I love the fact that Mariah is coming into her own these days. She has been a liner way too long and deserves a girl pal to hang with and share stuff with. Keep up the good writing!!!!

  5. girl pal yes, sexual partner NOT – don’t you writers have enough unfinished scripts you can work on? Here’s a thought why don’t you make victor a WOMAN – stupid eh? just like a mariah and tessa – STUPID!!!

    • Absolutely! I quit Guiding Light after watching since 1968 after they started with the lesbians. I have watched Y&R since the first episode in March 1973 and will quit if they continue this gay storyline.

  6. I dont like that they choose these two for this part , bring in two new actors into the program. not against where your headed life has changed, i just dont think this is the fit as these two actors have already proven to have boyfriends on the show. bring two new people in and give them a good place in the show .

  7. After watching yesterday’s show, I figured it was going this way. You could just tell. Makes me sick that the writers would put them together. Story lines like this are being crammed down our throats. I don’t appreciate it. I will quit watching if the writers put them together. I have watched faithfully since Snapper and Chris, and the Foster and Brooks families. It has been a great show. But my days off watching will be over if they do this. As the World Turns did it and the show is now gone. Two guys kissing on there was nasty and that was my last day to watch even though I had watched since the beginning with the Hughes family. Guiding Light introduced a gay couple and the show died and is no more. I quit it, too, when that happened. People can do what they want to do in real life, but don’t shove it down our throats in the shows we love.

  8. I am a faithful fan, but if they put them together I will not watch this show anymore…

    • I enjoy coming home and watching yandr each day. I will not watch anymore if the writers make Tess and Mariah a couple. I know I’m just one person but I’m a devoted long time fan. Actually this soap is getting boring and just plain dumb most of the time. Brother with his sister in-law. Father with his daughter in-law, ridiculous. I could write better material. So, I’m out. I’m the dumb one for watching so long.

  9. I have been watching Y & Y since it’s inception in 1973, and this is the only soap I watch. I think of all the current soaps, Y&R is the cleanest, not perfect, but more family friendly. It is easy to see where the Tessa-Mariah relationship is headed. I have decided to stop watching this soap after all these years, if a gay relationship begins. I realize that I am just one person, so maybe my position on this isn’t worth much. and losing one viewer isn’t a big deal. I believe however, there are many like me, I hope you will consider my concern.

  11. Ms. Alyssa Oliver

I am so excited about these ladies hooking up! So sweet, so hott! It gives me butterflies! Im more into the show than ever!!!

  12. I’m sorry, I find the majority of these comments (expressing how you will stop watching) to be utterly heartbreaking because it’s just so indicative of the general intolerance expressed on a daily basis in this country..live and let live no one’s hurting you or asking you to be like them. Open your mind and stop watching what is different than yourself through “hate goggles”.

    • I believe saying “live and let live” along with calling those that don’t care to watch 2 girls or 2 guys kissing, “hate mongers” is grossly hypocritical. I believe in gay rights, but that doesn’t mean I have to enjoy watching them kiss. A homosexual may not enjoy watching a show with heterosexual relationships. They are free to not watch that show. I do not enjoy watching homosexual relationships. I am also free to not watch that show. Live and let live right? Or is that phrase only true if I agree with you. Now that is the definition of intolerance.

  13. I am so disappointed to read these comments. I am a 69 year old woman who was traditionally married until I was in my 40’s. After my marriage ended I fell in love with a friend. I have been ‘married’ to my partner for 21 years now. I am so very excited to see this story line. Hey those of you who support this … Write in and vote

  14. Y& R ratings prove you DO NOT need to inject LGBT into the storyline. I quit watching G.H. because of this and I will do the same with Y&R, as will other’s I’ve talked to about it. There are still viewers out there that DO NOT want to see this. Y&R has been one soap that I’ve counted on to not offend.

    • I also quit GL and will quit Y&R too! Y&R is at the top of the ratings for a reason!! If it aint broke, dont fix it!!
CBS, your AllAccess and it’s Millennials is not your bread and butter!! BabyBoomers and cable TV are!! No matter how much some would want to be rid of us, we are here…for decades yet!!

    • Just to be clear-based on evidence-NOT your opinion, YR and GH ratings are higher when Mariah/Tessa and Kristina/Parker storyline’s are airing. Just sayin’

  15. Keep out gay relationships. Y&R has been a safe soap. You still have viewers from day one. Respect us. General Hospital is trash due to gay relationships.

    • Did you meant to type “Y&R has been a straight soap” instead of safe soap? Yes, it’s also been a white soap. It happens to 2017 the last time I checked. Diversity. Openness. Acceptance.

  16. 44 years of watching this soap bring a gay couple..male or female. I’M OUT!!!. The original writers would turn over in their graves. Ask Christine about this storyline her parents were the original writers.

    • …44 years, but the kick-ass awesome story line of Adam and Rafe some 8ish years ago hasn’t stopped you from your viewing devotion of Y&R 😉

      • That was not a gay relationship!! Adam was pretending to stay out of trouble, and the actor was so against it that he quit. Thats when Michael Mulney came in. The viewers gave them a chance to stop it, and they abruptly did!

  17. I like Mariah and Tessa as a couple. I do not like Mariah and Devon. She deserves someone who loves only her. Tessa seems her perfect match. It is 2017 and same sex couples are accepted by the majority. Glad to see Y&R having the guts to go there.

    • I totally agree with Nancy. I think the writers are doing this more as a love story. Camryn is knocking this out of the park. It’s a love story, people. Turn the TV off or change the channel. That’s what is great about America.

  18. I have watched Y&R for many years but will quit if the Mariah/Tess or similar story line is continued. I have quit watching other shows for the same reason.

  19. Who said they are going to be a gay couple? Getting the cart ahead of the horse much? Very well could just be a phase for both of them. In other words, bisexual.

  20. It’s offensive to my values and principles. They are even getting more risque with the sex scenes. I’ve watched Y&R since the beginning … I loved the show and the actors. But like everything else in this world, alternate lifestyles, accepting immigrants who don’t want to live our or appreciate our country, criminals who have more rights than victims?! Enough is enough. I’m not watching anymore. I’m not being force fed someone elses morality anymore snd being told by some liberal writers and producers that it’s how things are. Everyone is supposed to have equal rights in our wonderful country, but that is changing quickly. We’ll be worse than a 3rd world country if we keep it up. And thats my opinion!

  21. I have watched Young and Restless from the beginning. If the writers put Mariah and Tess in a gay relationship I will quit watching. As a Christian I will not allow this in my home. I respect others for their opinions, and I have a right to mine. I believe God loves everyone. But he hates all sin.

  22. I think it’s fine for Y&R to have a gay or lesbian relationship but not with the present characters on now. Introduce a new couple Soap characters bounce around from one relationship to another so this would most likely be the end of the rope for Mariah if she now realizes she is a lesbian. After all….characters can’t stay happy together for too long….Once this story line is over…..what does that mean for Mariah? Does the show plan on introducing a few more lesbians/gay characters? (Maybe they will have Mariah realize she is not a lesbian after all)

  23. Well Young and Restless you did it you lowered your self and brought a gay relationship to your show.. I am so sick that every show thinks it needs a gay couple, well it dont i am sick of turning on tv and that is all i see on every show, so thanks for making me finally TURN THE CHANNEL AND NEVER WATCH YOUR SHOW AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE WRITES IF YOU NEED NEW MATERIAL HIRE NEW WRITERS DONT RUIN THE SHOW ..

  24. Come on guys……you are making it seem like Mariah isn’t capable of a mans love, career or any normalcy. She already had a rough upbringing etc. She could be such a great asset to this show. Leave the lesbian stuff out.

  25. I stopped watching with last gay storyline about Rafe and Adam. Started watching sometime after that seemed to be done. I love the Y&R, but will stop watching again if this gay lifestyle is being promoted as if it’s great and acceptable. I live with my 5 grandchildren who would see this inappropriate interaction. If this gay storyline is to be broadcast on daytime tv then my family viewership with the Y&R will be over. Unfortunately it may go away just like As The World Turns and Guiding Light which I also loved until the gay storyline /behaviors. You can please the majority of viewers or the small minority but not both. This is not about hatred of a small segment of society. It’s just not acceptable behavior nor appropriate for daytime TV. Please don’t push this gay agenda so we can continue to watch the few ‘soaps’ that are still broadcasting.

  26. I to have watched Y&R forever and look forward to it everyday(DVR) it’s my one escape to unwind each day and so enjoyed the characters and stories over the years.(Cain so over him ready for him to leave lol)
But in regards to Mariah and Tessa….SERIOUSLY…WHY?
Y&R was THE only soap that was somewhat normal
I stopped watching Days of our Lives first for the repeated story lines but the same sex couples I stopped immediately and will I STOP watching Y&R as much as I love the show
Y&R you have let your loyal viewers down including this one so I will be seeing you … and as they say all good things must come to an end
    I’m Gone Y&R

  27. If you want a lesbian storyline get new actors. This seems out of place and poorly written. Keep Devon and Mariah together but Devon needs to put more effort into their relationship. Start writing for THEM as a couple.
There won’t be an audience for a rushed lesbian storyline just for the sake of it. If that is what you want to do find the actors and build that story. Don’t mess up these characters whether they ultimately work out as a couple long term or not. Just sayin.

    Drear Mr. Young,

The Y & R has finally succumbed to other “entertainment” garbage being thrown at us via TV and the movies.

I started watching the Y & R in July, 1991, after sustaining a serious physical injury and was laid up from my job for several months. Since the tender age of 3, I performed on stage with my twin sister both professionally and in an amateur capacity until I was 56. I am not homophobic and strongly believe in love between people no matter their sexual orientation. However, I do draw the line at letting a lesbian relationship be forced upon the viewing public of our beloved Y & R whose characters we have come to love and hate daily. The soap opera takes us away for an hour every day from the ugliness that is prevalent in our world today. I do not believe I am alone in my thinking. At 75 years of age I have lived a full life filled with disappointments, sorrow, and struggles, including a son who became a drug addict at 11 years old. Maybe you should concentrate on that sort of story as we are losing our precious children to drug overdoses every day.

Thank you for letting me share my views and “thank you Y & R” for all the wonderful memories you have given me this past 25 years. If you continue with this unwelcome storyline you are going to lose most of your viewing audience including myself. GOOD LUCK

    Sincerely,

    Judith Anne Newman

  29. I agree. I have watched this show most of my 60 years but I to draw the line. I will not watch such filth. I am done

  30. WOW, I am sort of shocked that so many of you think you don’t know gay people, that you think gay people are “filth”, and that you would write it herem no reason, no excuse…. the hypocrisy ALONE in the statements such as the one at the bottom of the page:

    Marilyn Green sez:
“I have watched this show most of my 60 years, but I [have] to draw the line. I will not watch such filth. I am done”

OK Mrs Green, I just want to be really sure that we are looking at the same situation. Did you feel like, for example, it might be time to draw your morality “line” when Phyllis was married to Jack but having sex with his brother, Billy? That was adultery and it wasn’t very nice to Jack. Adultery is up there in the Top Ten, so I would think that would ave been a BIG red flag.

Speaking of Jack, how many times has he been married? The Bible says that the only reason that is allowed by God is if someone in the marriage broke their vows and had sex with someone else. So I think there is room for debate about morals and lines and FILTH there too. But hey, what do I know, I was only able to earn my BA in Applied Ministry before I became disabled, thanks to an impaired driver. GUess how much I sued him? None much. That guy took away my whole life, my ability to work, to have children… but I forgave him. I hoped he would go and do the good things I could no longer do.

Daytime TV is nutty and irrational and illogical, but it’s fun. “Soaps” are also known to have a lot of people who behave pretty badly – look at General Hospital, there are at least FOUR, probably more, characters who committed MURDER, and they are walking around ol’ Port Charles going to lunch and balls and get to own businesses and have friends and kids…

Please. Please explain to this woman who has watched soaps for about 34 of my 48 years what it is exactly that makes gay people unwatchable and filth, but murderers and rapists (ooh, sometimes the rapists get hot wives! Like Luke and Laura on GH. Didn’t Michael Baldwin rape someone too? Oh yeah, he is gay in real life. So is the guy who played his brother ’til last week. Hope I didn’t pop any bubbles of joy with that news!) – they get to be ‘shipped and loved and watched. Is this really what you and others are saying? You are fine with adultery, murder, rape, promiscuity…. but gay people who are minding their business (as well as the law), well they are just too much? WHY? Please – enlighten me. Or think about what I wrote and maybe… just maybe, look at the logic here and change your mind. I won’t just give up easily.

  31. I am still picking my jaw up from the floor, those posts were so… I’m shocked, and sad. What a completely bizarre place for people to pick on one group of folks and call them “The Worst”. I mentioned my disability because the one friend who has been an absolute rock and the only one of my friends who stayed my friend after I wasn’t the Fun One anymore – he is my best friend, my brother. Not my biological bro, but a much kinder and more constant brother – he also happens to be gay, and I would bet he is a better person than most of us here. (Hi Mikel! Love you!)

But as for Mariah and Tessa? I have had radar on Mariah since she showed up, not sure why, just always thought she was gay. But when characters who have always been straight are suddenly not, that feels like a story that is forced. I would rather it be someone who just was gay fro the start (I guess Tessa could be, but I hate for her to hurt Noah, darn it!)

So while I don’t (i totally hate the “ship” word! I think that is a sign of me finally acting my age :D) totally ship those two as a couple, Y&R is the only show that doesn’t have gay characters. Gay actors YES (which I am guessing will flip a few literal wigs), but no characters. I guess CBS thinks they are all covered since they have a “trans” (not played by a transgender actor so I think that is a bit more “palatable” to the Morality Police) character. I might have been interested in a Mariah/Tessa thing, but they are dating such nice guys! So I kind of have to ate it. That was my long story Vote! 🙂

    • I’m so glad you posted. I feel people are having such a knee jerk reaction to Mariah and Tess but on what basis? It’s a thoughtless reaction that must seem like it’s coming from a justified moral high ground to them but it’s so sad. I wouldn’t even know how to begin to to talk to 99% of these posts because they are based in a view of the world that is so narrow that it can’t understand that which is different.

What are you all so afraid of? The worst thing to happen would be that you become more tolerant and understanding.

  32. Wow, some of these “Fans” are totally narrow minded. This is so upsetting. I hope all of them realize that they have gay people in their lives, and that a same sex love story isn’t something to lose your mind over. Every other soap has LGBT representation (Days’ Sonny/Will/Paul) (B&B Karen/Danielle and Rick is married to a woman who is trans) (GH Kristina/Parker and Lucas/Brad) – Why didn’t these people have a problem with Phillip Chancellor coming back from the dead and being gay?? Is it because he was single? “Its ok if you’re gay, as long as you dont be gay in front of me” grow up people.

  33. All the soaps that I have watched over the last 30years have all decided to have a gay couple and every one of those soaps have had their ratings plumit. Most even went off the air. I now only watch the young and the restless. When they brought back Jill’s son and made him gay, it didn’t work. This won’t work either. I will stop watching if this story line continues.

  34. Been watching for a long time. I don’t care to watch anymore if this is the disgust i have to see when the show comes on. Absolutely appalling!

  35. NO NO NO I could see it coming and when Maria and Tessa kissed I was revolted and changed the channel. If Young & Restless continues along these lines I will not be watching the show. I have been with Y & R since the early 70s and do not like the way the show is trying to ‘modernise’. IT’S TOO MUCH.

  36. It’s OK to have gay people in the show that’s all good and fine but I will never ever get used to seeing them make love. YUK.

  37. It’s OK to have gay people in the show that’s all good and fine but I will never ever get used to seeing them make love. YUK.

  38. I have been watching for many many years but I am tired of watching shows that have gay scene isn’t there a gay channels if so keep it there but as sad as I am I will not watch the show anymore as the world turns tried it one time look what happens to them the same will happen to you tell some one that you use to watch as the world turns and they will say never heard of it clean it up

  39. I’m not really sure how I feel about it. And the writers are making the whole thing rather confusing because when Mariah tried to express her feelings Tess sort of backed off and talked about being friends.

  40. You’ve had a great run all these years …. why stop now!! No to the relationship between the two gals. Not my cup of tea. An individual’s sexuality is their business but I don’t care to watch this duo. Guess I’ll turn you off ..😢

  41. You’ve had a great run all these years …. why stop now!! No to the relationship between the two gals. Not my cup of tea. An individual’s sexuality is their business but I don’t care to watch this duo. Guess I’ll turn you off ..😢

  42. Being provocative is the solution to very bad writing. No originality, no creativity – just bring on the controversy. After watching Y & R since the first episode (except for the Raf episodes), it is not worth my time. I guess in Mariah’s and Tessa’s characters’ cases, sex is just a buffet. And the usual drivel: “We had a bad childhood.” Why isn’t Devon or Victor gay? Why isn’t Nicki or Jill gay? They all had bad childhoods. Are we saying that only people with bad childhoods are gay? Ridiculous! Goodbye Y & R. Goodbye characters we loved and loathed and some we are frankly sick of. Goodbye to pathetic writing. And goodbye to the advertisers as well. We thought the Y & R was something we would enjoy watching,, but we thought wrong.

  43. I don’t agree with the story line. Can’t you just have two women be great friends without being lovers

  44. Elizabeth Ingalls

After watching the Young and Restless for over the course of its existence I will say Good Bye to what has become trash and that has taken over the television for ratings and big bucks. The decent people may lose this battle but, we know who wins in the end. You need to have a backbone and stand for what is right. I should never have let myself get so deep in this trash to start with. You may think that the few of us who object to this LGBT trash will have no bearing on your show or your advertisers, but, time will tell and you will all fail and be without a show and a job. I will not bring this into my mind or my home again. I have a library full of good books that will fill this time slot and you will be a distant memory very soon.. Wishing you all a deep soul searching.

  45. I too have been a fan of Y&R since its inception, but I’m weary of writers/producers/owners/whomever…thinking “oh, we must insert a homosexual relationship, because we’re certain the viewers are out there wondering why we haven’t gotten with the real world.” No, we’re not thinking that. The Adam thing didn’t fly. Leave these characters in the trend that had been set. Unless the Y&R folks wise-up, I too am done, and I’ve already started contacting sponsors.

  46. Watched Y and R since it’s inception. Will NOT continue to watch if Mariah and Tessa become a couple.

    • I Will not enjoy the soap if you start bringing in gay couples. Not that i have a problem with gay people.I just don’t think every program we watch are encouraging gay couples.
      .

  47. I don’t know why they can’t find a good fit for Mariah. Devon and her have no chemistry and we all know his heart is not with her, She was mad about Kevin, yet that went no where, and now they are trying her with a same sex partner. Tessa seems happy with Noah, who has constantly failed with women and the writers want to take yet another relationship from him. Devon would not care if Mariah was not interested in him, but Noah’s character, man he might give up altogether. Why don’t you just have Mariah concentrate on her career and unseat Hilary from her throne! Everyone would love to see Mariah take Hilary down! A good story of revenge and success over a person who has made you feel “little” is a storyline that everyone can enjoy. In fact I cannot believe the crap that Mariah has taken at the hands of Hilary and still she is working for and with her. How many people would do that? The soap seems to be struggling for good story lines lately.

  48. I agree with Haydee Sullivan. I have watched for years and have now stopped recording and watching. I am 69 years old and choose not to watch.

  49. Agree with Andre. Will stop watching the show after r40 yes. Family and friends fed up as well.

  50. I don’t agree with having gay couples in our soaps.I have a child that is gay.I love her very much and we have a great relationship.l also have three boys that are not gay they also have a great relationship with their sister.
I don’t think that we should encourage gay relationships.

  51. I grew up watching Y&R and I agree with the vast majority on this, I will STOP watching if this story line moves forward.

  52. I do not wish to see this Happen in the show. Although it’s their business I am sick of lesbians and gays being thrown in my face like it’s the best thing in the world. No one can tell me it’s a normal thing. Don’t mess with this great show I’ve watched for over 30+ years. You will definitely lose a lot of dedicated fans. Sorry.

  53. I’ve removed Y&R from my recordings. I’ve watched this show for decades, but I am taking a break from it because of this story. I’m just not interested in it. I may come back to it eventually, but if there is any hint of this Mariah/Tess stuff again, I will stop watching again, maybe for good this next time. I’m thinking of doing the same with GH if they continue with that horrible Parker/Christina story. I hate that these soaps are trying to push this on their viewers. Luckily for us viewers, we have the power to stop watching. There are so many other shows to record and watch anyhow.

  54. Soapcities: send these comments on to CBS. I will give them a chance to back off this gay stuff on Y&R like they did twice before. If not, they will lose me as a longtime viewer. (A former GL and ATWT watcher)

  55. I want to see Mariah and Devon get married. I want to see Hillary just more pissed off when that happens with all her sneaky stories and how she abuses Mariah. With the lesbian story line, I can just see Hilary lure Devon back in and use him again (with his money with he and his dad’s company) Devon doesn’t need her back. Try another LGBT story line with some new characters if that is what the push is. Hilary is due for karma the way she loves using people for her own personal goals so Mariah marrying her ex husband would be a nice slap in the face! On another note, Noah and Tessa are a cool couple, Noah seems so happy with her.

  56. If you, as writers, REALLY care about your loyal fan base of over 40 years you will TRASH the lesbian storyline!! It is totally OFFENSIVE to the majority of your loyal viewers and I guarantee it will not work to your advantage. WE DON’T WANT TO SEE THAT! Keep the integrity that your show has had all these years please.

  57. I’m another viewer, since the inception of the show, who will turn it off forever if this relationship goes any further. Y&R will be totally doomed, should they choose to go this route.

  58. I am a new viewer and I came because of the Mariah and Tessa storyline. I applaud Y&R at how it’s been handled so far. Slow build and excellent performance particularly by Camryn. Not making it a gay panic storyline, but treating it with the same as any other couple. Intertwining their lives like they have. They are adorable together and I can’t wait to see where it goes next and their kiss was awesome. I hope all these people in the comments don’t stop TPTB from moving forward with this storyline because it has the potential to be an excellent one. I hope for every one of the people who said they’d stop watching that Y&R gain 10 new viewers. In fact I hope every single person here continues to watch and they confront that thing inside them that makes them so intolerant.

      • I agree! I started watching Y&R because of the way the writers have portrayed the slow build, confusion & angst of the reality some LGBT people go thru in life. We need proper representation in our lives and I applaud the risk Y&R took to help show it to those struggling with their own feelings. I fully support the Mariah & Tessa s/l completely!

  59. Homophobic commentary is really unnecessary, folks! What’s next? People of colour? The elderly? People with disabilities? Ugly people with ugly hearts-clearly something some of you have. I think it’s wonderful to have a diverse range of characters that represent and reflect our world. Soap storylines involve rape, murder, incest, adultery, alcoholism, drug addiction… Yet the prospect of a same sex storyline is abhorrent? Emotional intelligence is sorely lacking.

  60. I have been watching Young and Restless for over 30 years and cannot believe that you are thinking of making Mariah and Tessa a couple. For God’s sake, can we please have at least ONE show without a gay couple. I will quit watching Y&R if this happens. Hope you will reconsider this story line.

  61. What a way to destroy your long running show. People don’t want this in their homes . I will stop watching.

  62. I will not watch anymore if they put Mariah and Tessa together Please destroy the storyline. I want to see Mariah and Devon, Cane and Lily together. I do not want to see two women together. It’s in the bible. NO TO MARIAH AND TESSA. Yes to Devon and Mariah. Please take Juliet off the show.

  63. What the heck. Hate the Tessa n Mariah storyline. They made Mariah into this pathetic person. And to destroy Devon and Noahs trust. RIDUCULOUS. Get new writers or revamp the craziness.
