Dr. Christine’s General Hospital Diagnosis: a Chimera and a Troubled Kid

Soap Cities’ very own resident GH devotee Christine Chagaris offers her take on the health of the show via two current, key storylines on it, in her General Hospital Diagnosis.

The Chimera Caper and the Valentin Connection

Things are indeed reaching a fever pitch in the case of Jake’s (Hudson West) fascination with drawing odd reminders of his time on Cassadine Island. Now that Jason (Billy Miller) has–gasp, miracles do happen–albeit reluctantly, acknowledged that the boy has a connection with Franco (Roger Howarth) and urged him to “do the right thing,” in his words, we can safely say that he, Liz (Rebecca Herbst), Franco, and Sam (Kelly Monaco) are finally all publicly on the same page where Jake’s well being is concerned. This is a good thing, given that they agree disaster might strike by his birthday, only a few days away. To summarize quickly, there’s that creepy chimera (a mythical creature with a lion’s head, a goat’s body, and a snake tail) that the kid, in a trancelike state, has drawn on his timeline, along with his birth date, and a scarecrow. And how convenient that, in a seemingly unrelated storyline, Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) is wearing a chimera necklace, which she says reminds her of the secret WSB project of the same name that she was privy to during her time with the organization, only to have Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) ultimately divulge its secrets to an unknown entity.

Breaking: How long will Roger Howarth be on GH?

Those Darn Cassadines!

The best bet is that Valentin took those secrets to Cassadine Island, and they most probably got into the hands of one Helena Cassadine (Constance Towers), who somehow used them in some kind of nefarious fashion to influence Jake and Jason, back when the latter was her willing (brainwashed) captive and had a different face, prior to his surgery. How else do we account for the impending dovetailing of these storylines? After all, Valentin is a Cassadine, and both Jake and Jason were held on the island, so it’s obvious that it’s all connected somehow.

The Calm Before the Storm

It’s clever how, just when we thought Jake was back to his normal life in Liz’s fold, the Cassadine influence rears its ugly head, and how his dad Jason is somehow involved as well. It’s too early to speculate what exactly was done to the youngster and what the secretive Chimera project involved. However, with Valentine’s murky past, Helena’s dastardly disposition (Is she even dead? Her evil reach extends far beyond the supposed grave) and Anna acting oddly lately, anything is possible. I tread lightly here because you can bet whatever the answer is, it’s not pretty and can have reverberations for all involved—especially little Jake–for a very long time.

The Pill Saga–Sonny’s Circling, and Ava Poised for Big Trouble!

Well, Ava (Maura West) seems to have a false sense of security about her involvement in switching Morgan’s (ex-Bryan Craig) meds. Now that she knows sneaky Scott (Kin Shriner) switched the placebo Lithium for the real thing, she thinks she’s home free. Uh, not so fast. West does a masterful job of shifting from skittishness at Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) impending wrath when the other shoe does fall to her current devil may care attitude. We know her deed is going to catch up with her, but where and how? Yes, Sonny’s initial tests on the pills from the independent lab have yielded nothing suspicious yet. However, spoilers have been indicating that something goes down at the upcoming Nurses Ball (when is Port Charles’s party of the year ever uneventful?) that turns Ava’s lie on its ear. My bet is that the lab test reveals something more, perhaps that the pills are not from Morgan’s original batch of meds?

Don’t Miss: Maurice Benard on when Ava get her due.

Family Fallout

The fun part–if such a word can be applied here–is anticipating what Sonny, Carly (Laura Wright) and Kiki (Hayley Erin) will do once they find out the ugly truth. This storyline is reaching its culmination, and boy what a buildup it’s been since last year, when Ava switched those pills all in the name of dissuading daughter Kiki from getting further involved with bipolar Morgan.

Also: Kristen Alderson on whether she’d come back to GH.

Ava’s Fate?

The fallout here will no doubt be explosive. It will indeed be riveting to see the now close yet fragile mother-daughter relationship between Kiki and Ava is shattered, perhaps beyond repair; Sonny exact revenge (we brace ourselves for which kind) on the mother of his child, Avery (Ava and Grace Scarola); and Carly be not far behind with her own fury and in Sonny’s corner where this is concerned despite their impending divorce. And let’s not forget the wrath of Morgan’s siblings, Michael (Chad Duell), Kristina (Lexi Ainsworth), and Josselyn (Eden McCoy). The writers have wisely taken their time with the buildup, which only makes our anticipation of the dénouement greater.

So tired of Sonny, Carly , Morgans death and the pills. Enough already.
Interested in the whole Cassadines Island story which involves a large part of the cast. Hopefully this story will pan out.
Have no interest in Alexia and Julian. This story really turns me off. I don’t care what the reasoning was, he was abusive on every level, And his excuse makes him a wimp.
The nurses ball will be fun, but please have someone other than Lucy host and enough with the male dancers. Kids are in the audience and I find this very tacky. Little Emma etc watching this. Just no.
Will greatly miss Tracy . Wish her last storyline was better and involved Luke more.
Last of all where is my Kevlaur? I actually started watching again last summer because of them. Where are they?????
