Days of Our Lives Romance Report Card: How the Love Is Measuring Up–Vote in Our Poll!

Steve and Kayla on Days of Our Lives.

Days of Our Lives knows how to bring us that afternoon delight we fans want. Some of its current amorous tales are fab, while others are less so. Do you agree with our grades?

Chad and Abigail: F

Technically, these two aren’t a couple right now, but we have to believe they will be again.

Like teachers, we hate to fail anyone. But we aren’t pleased–in fact, we’re fuming–that this super supercouple finally reunited only to split up because of some bizarre reasoning on Abigail’s (Marci Miller) part.

We do appreciate that a happy couple is a boring one, and a rocky road to a lasting love is part of what makes a couple great. So we will rethink this grade should Chad (Billy Flynn) and Abigail reunite…er, WHEN they reunite.

Eric and Jennifer: A+

What can we say about these two hot, wonderfully complex classic Salem characters finding each other. Inspired!

We are rooting for these two all the way, and we’re having a blast watching them evolve together.

Steve and Kayla: A

When they said, “I Do,” finally, we said, “We Do.” We DO love them both, we DO love them together, and we DO want to watch them navigate life as a team again.

Now, we are going to contradict ourselves, dear Soap Cities readers. We just said a happy couple is a boring couple, which is generally the thinking on soap writing and production teams too. But this couple is pretty happy right now, and we’re loving their storylines!

Gabi and Eli: B+

Thumbs up to this unexpected, cute couple. We’re glad Gabi (Camila Banus) is moving on from Chad. And we like that the dreamily handsome Lamon Archey (Eli Banning) got a love interest soon after coming to Salem.

However, we don’t know enough about them and haven’t seen them interact enough to give a higher grade than a B. We have a good feeling about his duo, though.

JJ and Lani: A

Ok, so they’re not officially a couple yet. But we love these two together. Amazing chemistry; awesome mis/adventures; and complex, layered performances by Sal Stowers (Lani Price) and Casey Moss (JJ Deveraux) all serve to make this the couple to watch during the summer months and beyond.

Nicole and Brady: D

Now, we’re not going to deny we like see Nicole (Arianne Zucker) and Brady (Eric Martsolf) happy. We like them both a lot.

But honestly, watching them together is like watching two people who are best friends…or worse, siblings. These two are better off as good pals.

Abe and Valerie: A-

These two have been slightly backburnered the last couple of weeks. But before that, we very much enjoyed seeing them support, care for, and enjoy each other.

This coupling is a great example of a mature couple that knows how to make it work.

Joey and Jade, Claire and Theo: B

We put these two together, because right now they’re both seeming like the requisite teen romance we get on soaps during the summer months.

They can be interesting, but it all feels a little “going through the motions.” Jade (Gabrielle Haugh) is too wacky, and Joey (James Lastovic) will see that soon. And we all know Theo (Kyler Pettis) will eventually realize Ciara (Vivian Jovanni) loves him and he loves her. Or are we wrong here?

Rafe and Hope: B+

Honestly, these two have been through so much, we’re just a little exhausted when we think about it. Luckily, they’re in each other’s arms now.

Their chemistry is a 5 out of 10, sadly. But we ship them and have hope they’ll get as exciting as we know they can be!

  1. I had to go with Jen and Eric, though Kayla and Steve were a close second for me. I agree about Brady and Nicole’s grade, but mainly because we all know Nicole is leaving the show. I like them; however, it is hard to root for a couple when you know half of that couple will be out the door soon. Anyway, my overall question is” What grade would you give Sonny and Paul? They were one of the only couples not on the list.
