How Does the Cast and Crew of General Hospital Do It?!?!?!

They even find time to goof around backstage on “General Hospital,” despite a hectic taping schedule.

The official Facebook account for “General Hospital” posted a stunning reminder of the amazing work done in daytime every day!

I’m Sorry–Come Again?

The cast and crew of “General Hospital” (GH) shoots over…wait for it…100 pages of dialogue per day!!!!! Now, we at Soap Cities are not in the industry, so without some perspective we gained from another soap star, this would not have made us fall over in as much shock and awe.

The Mustache Clued Us In

At a Genoa City Live event in Baltimore last fall, yours truly, Akbi Khan, learned an illuminating fact from Eric Braeden (Victor Newman, “The Young and the Restless”). Braeden pointed out that on a movie set, it’s considered a great day if the cast and crew shoot ten or even fewer pages. On a daytime soap set, cast and crew regularly shoot close to 100 pages. The daytime icon leaned over to co-star Joshua Morrow (Nick Newman) and asked, “We recently shot 118 pages, right?” Morrow concurred. Actually, yours truly did work on a movie set once, and even two pages we considered knocking it out of the park!

Take One

Perhaps one of the ways soap cast and crew do this is by restricting most scenes to one take. Considering that we almost never see even the tiniest error in daytime, that’s really what is stupefying about it all!  If people knew how hard soap cast and crew work and how on point their product is, maybe our beloved genre would get more respect. Then again, who cares what anyone else thinks!
