Could AMC & OLTL Hit The ABC Website?

16

What is in store for the future of All My Children (AMC) and One Life to Live (OLTL)?  ABC Entertainment Exec Nathan Varni had plenty to say about the future of both shows!  This includes crossovers with General Hospital (GH) and where both shows could be resurrected, though “not in the traditional way.”

AMC & OLTL on ABC.com?

In the latest issue of ABC Soaps In Depth, Varni tells us where he thinks our beloved soaps might end up:  “If the ABC Website expands, there might be a place for the shows” there.  This is frankly news to us here at Soap Cities (SC)!  This would be a brilliant move on the part of ABC, because both AMC & OLTL have strong showings.

This untapped audience could bring a large presence to the site and ABC Watch App.  ABC might be wise to take a page out of CBS’ playbook, since CBS All Access (website and app) is debuting their first series, a spinoff of The Good Wife!  The Good Fight, starring Christine Baranski, will focus on her journey one year after the original show ended and will debut on the CBS All Access Sunday, with a special CBS simulcast showing at 8pm ET/PT and 7pm CT/MT.

Imagine if we could get AMC OLTL back, allowing us to watch our fave shows and characters at our convenience, anytime, anywhere!  Now, while we at SC would prefer to see them on our traditional TV screens, Varni notes in ABC SID, “we don’t have the space on our daytime schedule to do that.”

GH Crossovers

Varni says in ABC SID,  “ever since we were able to regain the rights of the shows [from Prospect Park], we’ve had conversations about how to incorporate them characters from [them]into GH.  Could we see OLTL’s Viki or AMC’s Brooke, for example?  Varni answers:  “We don’t want to do anything that doesn’t make sense, but we’re definitely looking at the fun to be had.”  Already in the works:  OLTL’s Nora Buchanan, who will be coming from Llanview to take the case of one our beloved PC residents, beginning March 6th!

Are you excited about the future possibilities of our AMC OLTL characters as much as we are here at Soap Cities?!

  1. As long as I could watch without having to have a code from my cable provider, since I don’t have cable, I will watch. Sounds great!

  2. I don’t want them to ADD characters to GH, awesome characters like Epiphany can’t even get a story & it’s been yrs!!!! Sonya should have got so much more airtime than she does. It’s not fair. I would love a spin off of our soaps resurrected, & I know ABC will appreciate much higher ratings for our maybe combined show “Second Chances”, than half their daytime shows combined! Bring back our shows, & you’ll bring back thousands of viewers you lost!

  4. Well, first of all, there was plenty of room when ABC wanted to cancel the shows in the first place, so that statement is dubious. And as far as not doing something that doesn’t make sense, it didn’t make sense to cancel them in the first place.
But if ABC finally comes to its senses and gives us back our shows, I’ll be watching. I’m just not ready to go back to ABC with these “bones” they throw every now and then (Hillary B Smith, Tonja Walker, etc).

  5. I would welcome the idea of shows being available on the web site, but I hope that they change the site policy. Their web site currently requires you to have cable or dish service to view shows when they release. Otherwise, you have to wait 8 days to view shows. Makes it difficult to follow a show when you work some nights in a rotational schedule!

  6. Anytime anyplace All My Children and One Life To Live I will tune in for and pay a membership fee even if needed. I’ll do whatever I can to support the genre and these shows!

  7. There’s room if they make them 1/2 an hour each. They can then expand and get rid of an hour of news they had to add because of failing shows and/or finally cancel the insipid Chew. I’ll take them any way I can get them. I’m tickled pink at just having Nora on GH! I, like many fans, want more, however. I want Vicky back!!!

  8. ABC could take off those annoying talk shows and cooking shows which would give more room in their daytime schedule for AMC AND OLTL. Plus they would get us fans back too.

  10. I love and miss both AMC and OLTL. However, there are a lot of older people out there, that used to live by those shows. Most are on social security or another fixed income. They don’t have cable or internet. This would make it hard for them to see these shows. ABC had plenty of room for these shows before they were canceled. ABC could start them out at 1/2 an hour each. Remember when the soaps were on the radio for 15 minutes each?? That would be better than nothing. Also, for the actors that are on contract to another network, this would give them time to work it out to come back, if they wanted to. We would be glad, if they do work it out. We will be waiting!

  11. LOVE anything that will bring back AMC and OLTL characters, especially if it means continuing to include them on General Hospital should physically reviving the shows (network or cable) not become a “reality.” I join the hundreds of thousands who have missed AMC and OLTL who are thrilled at the thought that they aren’t gone forever…

Thank you ABC and General Hospital for starting the ball rolling!

  12. Please bring back one life to live I miss the characters from there like Brittany Underwood, Robert ford and starr manning those were my top 3 favorite I’m sad its gone
