BREAKING NEWS: Vincent Irizarry Out at Days

Salem’s scheming Deimos Kiriakis (Vincent Irizarry) could be on-screen through the middle of the year.

Vincent Irizarry has taped his last scenes as the devious Deimos Kiriakis on “Days of Our Lives.”

Don’t Be Too Down About Deimos

We at Soap Cities know that Vincent Irizarry’s legion of fans, which includes us, will be bummed to hear we’ll no longer see the kooky Kiriakis brother in Salem. But remember: Days tapes six months in advance. So even though Irizarry has taped his last scenes, he will continue airing on the NBC sudser through the middle of the year, according to Soap Central.

Irresistible Irizarry

Also, Irizarry fans should keep another fabulous fact in mind. The timing of the actor’s departure from Days sets up some great possibilities for his future in daytime. ABC has expressed interest in bringing “All My Children” (AMC) characters to “General Hospital” (GH). David Hayward of AMC was one of Irizarry’s most popular soap characters of the many he’s played. He even had a baby with GH’s Anna Devane (Finola Hughes). He did, after all, take David to “One Life to Live” in a 3-episode crossover too, so GH could be a definite possibility.

Eva LaRue has AMC fans tongues wagging with the exciting possibility that Netflix might pick up AMC, as well.

Irizarry has played memorable characters on “The Young and the Restless,” “Guiding Light,” and “Santa Barbara”. Add to that the fact that, in daytime, we’re never sure we’ve seen the last of a character, thankfully. Deimos could be the new Phoenix and come back to Salem even after leaving in what seems like a done deal.

The Proof Is in the Impressive Pudding

Irizarry has been nominated for two daytime Emmys. He won an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor  in 2009. He also won a Soap Opera Digest Award for Outstanding Villain in 1999.
