Y&R Star Steve Burton on His Difficult Decision to Exit the Show

“The Young and the Restless” (Y&R) star Steve Burton shared some thoughts on tackling his last storyline in Genoa City. He also spoke of how he came to the decision to leave Y&R.

Family Ties, On-Screen and Off-Screen

“Being home has been amazing, and waking up with my little girl in our bed is awesome.  These are the reasons why I made the choice to leave Y&R,” said Burton of relocating to Nashville, where his family lives, in an interview with Michael Fairman.

Still, saying goodbye to his Genoa City family wasn’t easy. His on-screen parents, Doug Davidson (Paul Williams) and Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki Newman) were sad to see him go, he said, but they ultimately supported his decision.

“Doug said, ‘Selfishly, this sucks,'” recounted Burton. Davidson and Scott understood Burton wanted to be with his family though.

Burton had high praise for his wife on Y&R, Sharon Case (Sharon McAvoy).

“She is always positive, and it’s such a pleasure to be around,” Burton said of Case.

The actor said he and Joshua Morrow (Nick Newman) are close friends and will remain so, despite his departure.

The Future’s a Mystery–in a Good Way!

Burton said for now he plans to focus on his family and the other businesses he owns or co-owns. He did, however, note that in life, especially in daytime drama world, anything is possible. So, Burton fans, don’t assume you’ve seen the last of this one.

“Hey, you never know what may happen in life…especially in the soap world!” Burton mused.
