Soap vet Wally Kurth (Justin Kiriakis, “Days of Our Lives;” Ned Ashton, “General Hospital”) took to social media to support a fellow actor’s impassioned speech at last night’s Golden Globe Awards.

Using His Platform for Good

Kurth Tweeted that Meryl Streep’s headline-grabbing speech last night was simply using a moment when she had a national audience to make a point she felt needed to be made. He implied it was not only her right but the right thing to do. He added some more salient points to bring his brief but powerful argument home.

Kurth stated his point simply, succinctly, and powerfully. Scroll down to see his full Tweet.

A Heartfelt Acceptance Monologue

Streep took the stage to receive the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Awards at last night’s Golden Globe Awards. The actor expressed her dismay when president-elect Donald Trump mocked a disabled reporter earlier this year.  It made a great impact on her and she hasn’t been able to forget about it.

“This instinct to humiliate, when its modeled by someone in the public platform, by someone powerful, it filters down because it kind of gives permission for others to do the same thing. Disrepect invites disrespect, violence incites violence.”

Each year the Hollywood Foreign Press Association honors the best in television and film at The Golden Globes, often described as the biggest party of the year in Hollywood.

His Own Storied Acting Career
Kurth has gained a loyal following of fans from his long career in daytime. He has often played simultaneously played Justin on Days and Ned on GH. He also portrayed Sam Hutchins on “As the World Turns.”

Kurth married Debra Yuhasz in 2003. He was also married to his ex-GH co-star Rena Sofer (Quinn Fuller, “Bold and the Beautiful). The two share a daughter, Rosabel Rosalind. He has also has another daughter, Meghann Sidney.
